Tuesday January 17th
and the snow began..... I love the snow, I love the sound, the feel, and the fun it brings. I woke up Wednesday morning and walked outside to enjoy the beautiful falling snow and experienced my favorite part of snow, the complete lack of sound. The snow absorbs the sound leading to a silence or dullness in the air. This stillness in the air reminds me the quiet walkways of venice where there were no cars and buildings block all the sound. I sat in my sleepy chair in the front bay window and watched the snow for a better part of a day and enjoyed evey minute.
Thursday January 19th
The snow stopped and the freezing rain began. The power went out Wednesday night and the house was beginning to get cold. I took the dog out in the morning and heard what at first I thought was construction workers, I remember thinking how crazy someone was to be outside building in this cold whether, that was when I realized how silly I was. I realized quickly the sound was branches breaking and trees falling under the weight of the snow and the freezing rain. We sat in the living room wrapped up in bankets and watched as the trees in the back yard began to fall. Danny and I went out in the front yard and saw our 200 foot fir tree leaning dangerously over our house and decided it was time to leave. We threw some supplies in the car waved good buy to our 7 foot tall snowman and headed over to Danny's sisters house.
Friday January 20th
the power was still out and school was canceled so we stayed at Danny's sisters house another day. We had a great time playing games and watching snow melt off the trees. We were all sleepy, including Mr. Wilson. As I sat on Tina's couch doing my homework I looked over and found Adalyn and Mr. Wilson snuggling on the couch taking a little nap.
Saturday January 21
The power was still out at our house so we spent another day at Tina's house. I can't begin to tell Tina how thankful I am that she took us in when we needed it. We got up and had a great scrammble for breakfast and then headed to the gym for a work out. Once the gym was done we poured a drink and started playing Mexican Dominos.
Sunday January 22nd
Danny and I went by the house to check on things, I headed stright to the back yard to check on the damage. I rounded the corner and the sight was heart breaking. The hillside that borders the right side of our property was once covered in beautiful pine trees but now all those trees were laying in our grass. Beautiful birch trees were broken in half, tall pine trees were snapped in two but some how my beautiful apple tree was undamaged. The pictures of the damage does not do justice to the destruction in the back yard, there will be days of clean up in our future and years of regrowth on the hillside.
